Professor Jane Fisher
Jane Fisher, an academic Clinical and Health Psychologist, is Finkel Professor of Global Health and Professor of Women’s Health in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. She is Immediate Past President (2018 – 2020) of the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health and was President (2016 – 2018). Jane is Chair of the World Health Organization’s Guideline Development Group for Interventions for Early Childhood Development and Chaired the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Mental Health and Parenting Working Committee (2014 – 2017).
Her research is focused on improving understanding of:
- the social determinants of mental health problems experienced by women who are pregnant or have recently given birth;
- the links between caregiver emotional and learning needs and early childhood development;
- developing and trialling innovative psycho-educational programs to prevent postnatal mental health problems and promote parenting confidence and
- identifying the earliest risks to emotional and behavioural problems among children and adolescents.
